Nidana (Etiology)

Vataja Shiroroga is primarily caused by factors that aggravate Vata dosha, such as excessive physical exertion, suppression of natural urges (vegasandharana), fasting, and exposure to cold winds. These factors lead to the depletion of bodily tissues and the accumulation of Vata in the cranial region.

Lakshana (Clinical Features)

  • Intense, piercing pain in the head (shirashoola)
  • Feeling of constriction as if by a tight band
  • Aggravation of pain during the night
  • Relief with warm applications and oleation
  • Temporary loss of sensory perception in severe cases

Samprapti (Pathogenesis)

The aggravated Vata moves upwards into the channels of the head, causing obstruction and localized pain. This process involves the Srotas (channels) associated with the nervous system and vascular supply to the cranium.

Chikitsa Principles

Management focuses on Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (sudation). Internal administration of medicated ghrita (ghee) and external application of warm oils like Mahanarayana Taila are standard protocols.
